Sonnox Reworked
A 5 track deep house ep (32m 53s) — released February 9th 2015 on Teng
On the 16th February, Teng presents Teng Digital and drops Akra's 'Sonnox' Reworked EP with mixes from Gnork, Yard One and Owain K as well as Mr. Woolfson's re-interpretation of his original version.
Their first release will be on their new Teng Digital imprint......... New year, new format, same impressive quality. After releasing on vinyl with the likes of Neville Watson, Paul Mac, Craig Smith, Nubian Mindz, Matthias Vogt, the label, brainchild of Nick Woolfson, comes back with another incredibly heterogeneous EP, always keeping with the declared aim of dropping melodic and deep quality electronic dance music.
For their first digital release they asked some of their favourite artists and friends to remix one of the labels favourite tracks, Akra's 'Sonnox', included in Teng's second release. The EP features Blind Jacks Journey's contributor Gnork, Tactics Recordings' head Yard One and Dessous, Poker Flat and Tsuba's usual suspect Owain K as well as Akra's funk re-adaptation of his own track.
The single opens with Akra' 'Funk Da Edit': the track takes a completely different step from the original version, becoming a cheeky funky electronic cut driven by a bouncy bass-line and fresh sounding synth melodies. Hungary's Gnork uses the original bass melodies, building a groovy House track on top, driven by growing pad melodies and intricate but straight drum machine patterns, distinctive of his productions. Bristolian Owain K delivers a solemn opening cut titled 'Newfoundland Tweak' while South London - based Yard One plays with the original melodies and merge them with a deep wobbly bass and broken beats in his 'Reshape' version. The EP closes with Akra's timeless original.
